Shavers Mountain Survey Project

The eastern side of Shavers Mountain

The Shavers Mountain Survey Project is an organized group of cavers that, with the cooperation of the Monongahela National Forest, the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and local landowners, is locating and surveying caves and endeavoring to understand the karst hydrology in the Shavers Mountain region of Randolph and Tucker Counties in West Virginia.

This web site has been established in order to provide a central repository for survey trip reports and pictures. In time, we will also have a password protected area for specific data and maps.

If you are an experienced caver and would like to participate with the survey, the Shavers Mountain Survey Project weekend is normally the first full weekend of the month--although we usually don't meet during the heavy snow months. We rendezvous on the first Saturday of the month at the Alpine Lodge in Alpena, WV at 9am. Survey participants can either come down for the day, or spend the entire weekend at our once-a-month "fieldhouse" in Glady Fork area of the Monongahela National Forest.
