What is Channel 7?

Western Valley Access Channel, also known as Channel 7, is a Public Access Television Facility. Public Access TV was created with the vision of making the medium of television available to everyone on a non-discriminatory basis.

What can be put on a Public Access Channel?

The only restrictions that apply to program content are those imposed by the Federal Government. Briefly stated, libel, slander, and obscenity are forbidden. Also, we are unable to cablecast any programming that sells anything.

What are those ads for local businesses?

Those are what is referred to as underwriting acknowledgments. We are allowed to display certain information in appreciation for donations from local businesses and organizations. This information may only identify the business, not promote it. You will notice that we never encourage the viewer to patronize the businesses that sponsor the message board.

How can I have my own TV show?

If you own a camcorder, you can produce a videotape and submit it to Channel 7 anytime. If you do not own a camcorder, we have equipment available to anyone who passes the certification process. Instruction is available to persons unfamiliar with video equipment.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers run Channel 7. WE HAVE 1 PAID STAFF. We need volunteers to serve on committees, to be board members, to help schedule programming, and for many other opportunities. The tasks are not difficult. Volunteering at Channel 7 provides you with a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, meet interesting people, and contribute to your community.

If you are from outside the area, check your local area for volunteering opportunities.
