Weathersfield Mission StatementWeathersfield strives to make available to all students a sound basic education in the traditional scholastic disciplines. Opportunities for enrichment are offered through academics, athletics, and in the arts. We are dedicated to providing for our children a safe, well-maintained place in which to learn, a sensitive and academically superior faculty, and a motivational framework to encourage them to their highest level of achievement. In order for our schools to both reflect and lead our community, we seek to promote a healthy discourse among parents, community members, students and staff. It is our intent to encourage and reinforce the ideals of personal and social responsibility, and to nurture in our students are respect for themselves and an understanding of others.School Board Meeting Ground RulesIn an effort to have successful meetings, we have adopted ground rules for all of us to follow. Please:
Suggestions and ConcernsShould you have a concern or suggestion involving the schools that you wish to communicate, there is a "chain of command" which should be followed: Step 1. Employee involved Step 2. Building Principal Step 3. Superintendent Step 4. School Board If your concern is not resolved at one step, then move on to the next step. We believe that following these steps in order is the best and most direct way for communication.

The Weathersfield School Board heard from Winton Goodrich, of the Vermont School Board Association, about its self-assessment survey in February 2002.
The board went through an exercise to learn how each member could contribute to the board as a whole. In addition, several key points were brought to the board's attention from reviewing the survey results. They were:
Staff Communication | |
Planning (3-5 year) | |
Policy Work | |
Mentoring New Board Members
Equity in Curriculum and Co-curricular Activities
Focus on Student Achievement
Well-being of Students
Using Data to Make Decisions |
The top three issues on which the board will focus are:
Staff Communications, Short & Long Term Planning and Updating of Policies.
These issues relate very closely to this year's goals:
Update the Board Policy Book
Work on joint Board and Staff goals
Continue to explore the possibility of a single school
Evaluation of the School Board by an outside resource such as the Vermont School Board Association. |
