07/25/07 WOOD MARKET CONDITIONS

Back to Home
The market has improved over the past two years, and ground conditions have been very favorable this summer.  Popple (aspen) pulp mill demand is up.  Hardwood logs are down.  Hardwood pulp is up slightly, but still not as good as a few years back, which was the best in a long time.  All other products are relatively average at the moment.  With high oil prices, firewood markets are up as well.

We are now marketing tree-length hardwoods as firewood by the truckload directly from our logging jobs.  This marketing niche adds a little more income to the landowner and to the logger, without flooding local mills with volume.  Market diversity is the key to sustaining the forest products industry.  Please give a call if you are shopping for inexpensive tree-length firewood in the Bangor area.

We are currently logging on sites that have been too wet for operations during the past two years, including both summers and winters.  While the market hasn't returned to where it was a few years ago, current market conditions and great ground conditions are making for a productive year.

The outlook looks promising for this winter.  Please give me a call if you are considering harvesting your property.  There is absolutely no pressure to cut and I will give you independent, professional forest management recommendations.
