Tony P's 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ
"Not much left that is '87"

Hi, if you have happened on to my website you must be a 4
wheeler!
I am a member of the On The Rocks Jeep Club in
Thousand Oaks, CA. I thoroughly enjoy 4 wheeling "responsibly" and as you can tell I
enjoy working on my Jeep too. At this point, there is not much left that is from 1987...
keep scrolling down and you can see all the modifications it took to make this a "Trail Ready" rig.
NEW:
Site updated July of 2006!
July 15, 206 I installed a front Pro Rock 60 with a custom 3 link suspension on
Fox 2.5" air shox.

Special thanks to Garry Hall for his help and tons of
hours on all the frame mods and my wonderful wife for letting me follow my passion
(& spend all the time and $$$ on my Jeep)! |

Here are a few more detailed pictures with a few
notes. You would never guess there is hundreds of hours in all these mods. My
Jeep was on Jack stands for 4 months!
I do almost all the work myself so if you have a specific question
drop me an email at: tony@genright.com

Lots of clearance with a Pro Rock 60 (1/4" more than a Dana
44)!
Notice nothing hangs down (like shock mounts or traction bar mounts).

Tera 4:1 low T-Case, includes a new front half.
I made a transmission mount
to keep everything tucked up nicely. Make
sure you install
a CV joint on both drive shafts to handle the big angle with a "belly up" kit.
Also look closely and you might notice the rear spring mounts french'd up
into the frame right where the traction bar cross member meets the frame.
Yes, it all gets covered by a super trick 5/16" 7075 aluminum skid plate from
the oil pan to the rear spring mounts.
I had to relocate the rear shock upper mounts, it turned out to be a multi position
mount.

Nothing hangs down to get hung up! Same in the rear, the
bumper was modified for the most clearance too.
The MORE Stage 2 steering kit is the way to go! Note the
custom fabricated reverse shackle mounts
are tucked up tightly under the front bumper and act as a ramp from the front bumper. I also stretched the
wheelbase 2" by moving the front axle forward.

Front Reverse Shackle mounts - were
moved up and fit snug to the frame. The front spring shackle mount, is welded into the middle of the frame. Above right is the new forward mount fab'd from scratch moves the axle 2" forward and 2" up.
Rear Axle - BEFORE (below) you can see how the rear of the
frame was shifted up and the stock mount cut off for 4" more clearance
& AFTER (above)

3/16" thick reinforcement is welded to the frame
where it was cut and moved.
Setting up the front differential & installing the Warn Axles:

Install a new seal on the passenger side, and
pressed into place
Pressing the bearings on with the hydraulic press

Check the gear backlash
Check the pattern
Relocate the shock mounts as part of the spring over
Trail PICS:

Stoddard Valley "V" notch, May 2003
Pumpkin Eater dry waterfall climb, Stoddard Valley,
CA, May 2003

700 on the 30 degree ramp, HDR 2003 (that is over
1000 on a standard 20 degree ramp!) 5/04

You never have enough ground clearance! But with the smooth
bottom you
can drag yourself over rocks like this!

Climbing the rock was the best line and the most fun!
Gorman CA, March 2003

Rubicon, June 2002 climbing out of the Little Sluice, before all the really
cool mods were made.

Dusy Trail, Central CA, July 2002 at 10,000ft summit.

As you can see it all works really good!
