Single A Involvment in the VA Challenge A/AA VS AAA All-Star Matches
2005
135 AAA Champ Adam Pittman(Great Bridge) had his way with Three time champ Todd Smoot(Manassas Park) before pinning. Smoot was not mentally prepared for this match as it should have been a good one. Smoot dominated all common opponents but could not get it done when they met head to head.

2004
171- Buffalo Gap's Josh Talbott gave Group AAA state champion Ivan Lagares of Woodbridge a run for his money, nearly pinning Lagares early in the match when a lateral-drop attempt went awry. Talbott scored a reversal to take a 1-point lead with 30 seconds to go before Lagares turned the tables, and scored the go-ahead reversal with 15 seconds to go. Final score: 10-9. Thanks to J. Bryant

2003
112- Jordan Friskhorn-2nd(AAA Great Bridge) maj Todd Smoot-1st(AA-A Manassas Park) 22-8
Friskhorn got a quick TD countered by a Smoot Esc. Jordan then earned another TD and unsuccessfully tried to go for the kill with notorious GB bar series. 4-1 end of 1st.
Smoot rode Frisk for about 30 seconds before giving up the esc. Frisk got another quick TD countered this time by a Smoot reversal. Frisk escaped and Smoot got a quick TD and actually dumped Frisk to his back. Frisk escaped and hit a five pointer off of a high single to end the 2nd.
The third period was all Friskhorn as conditioning took its toll on the true freshman from MP.

140- Chris Brown-3rd(AAA Great Bridge) maj Luke Siler-1st(AA-A Brentsville) 12-0
Conditioning dictated the pace in this match also. Siler and Brown battled to a 0-0 1st.
Brown chose down to start the 2nd. Brown worked to his feet where Siler came down hard on the head and locked up an extremely tight Merkal Grip. They both jockied for position and before Siler could get his leg hooked, Brown escaped. Brown then got a TD and Siler fell victim to the above and below mentioned infamous Great Bridge ride. Bar Tilt, Bar Tilt, and yes one more Bar Tilt.

2002
103- Casey Staylor-2nd(AAA Great Bridge) tech Leroy Ogelsby-1st(AA-A Randolphe Henry) 15-0
Staylor got the first TD and then hit the same move (bar-tilt) numerous times to earn the tech.

189- Patrick Bond-1st(AAA Great Bridge) fall Daniel Crockett-1st(AA-A Rural Retreat)
Bond locked up a deep near-side cradle and got the fall right before the buzzer in the first.

275- Adam Gregory-1st(AA-A Riverheads) dec Mtyari Robinson -1st(AAA Menchville) 6-5
Gregory became the first Single A kid to earn a victory in this all-star classic. Very typical heavyweight match. However, Gregory added a little drama by balling up his fists a couple times when Robinson slung him onto the basketball court. The refs kind of messed up as well. They awarded gregory a point at the end of regulation which was the third one awarded. They sent it into OT and every A-AA fan(Including myself) was screaming for a 2 point call. After wrestling about 30 seconds of the OT the refs realized they screwed up and stopped the match and awarded Gregory the victor.

2001
135- Donnie Barbaree-1st (AAA Great Bridge) dec. Joey Jakupczyk-1st (AA-A Radford) 14-8.
Joey actually got a cradle locked up on the AAA state champ.

145- Justin Gabbard-1st,152 (AAA Tallwood) maj. dec. Zak Thompson-1st (AA-A Brentsville) 19-8.
Thompson gave up alot of size to the 152 AAA state champ and two time AAA state finalist.

152- Brandon Dunavant-2nd,160 lost in OT (AAA Hickory) dec. Shaun Guttridge-1st (AA-A Manassas Park) 12-9.
Guttridge dominated the first period scoring two takedowns. Was slightly out conditioned in the 3rd.

171- Ian Nelson-3rd (AAA Kellam) dec. Daniel Crockett (AA-A Rural Retreat)-2nd,189 8-2.
Crockett who snuck into the Single A state finals with an amazing come from behind OT win had a respectable battle with AAA 3rd place finisher.

2000
125- Dalton Head-1st (AAA) tech fall Chance Craft-1st (AA-A) 15-0, 4:00.
Head dominated the Three Time champ en route to a technical fall.

135- Steve Keleher-1st (AAA) tech fall Joe Jakupezyk-1st (AA-A) 19-4, 6:00. The crafty Radford state champion hung with the three time champ for two periods, before Keleher just wore him down.

215- Shaun Herring-1st (AAA) dec. Matt Magerko-1st (AA-A) 4-3. Typical low scoring 215 match. Magerko still lacks the big name experience, but still showed he was one of the best of the state.

1999
119- Stacy Menefee-5th (Franklin County) dec. Chance Craft-1st(James River) 11-9.
Most exciting match of the evening so far. Menefee blistered to a big lead on takedowns in the first and early second, but Craft, a two-time Group A state Champion, fought back and got within 10-9.
