| New Testament scriptures about
the Church As we have seen in the Old Testament scriptures,
God continually promised to establish a universal covenant family. Now
in examining the New Testament, we will see that this foreshadowed the
church that Christ built on Simon-Peter and the apostles. The New Testament
leaves little doubt that Christ's church held a unity of government faith
and worship from the very beginning. We will also see that this church
is lead by Christ, and created to last until the end of time.
Matthew
Chapter 16
"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not
revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you
are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of
the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys
to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

"If your brother sins (against you), go and tell him his fault between
you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother.
If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that
'every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses.'
If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen
even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

you are well aware that from early days God made his choice among you
that through my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and
believe. And God, who knows the heart, bore witness by granting them the
Holy Spirit just as he did us. He made no distinction between us and them,
for by faith he purified their hearts. Why, then, are you now putting
God to the test by placing on the shoulders of the disciples a yoke that
neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary,
we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the
same way as they."

all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers?

Chapter 2
So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow
citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built
upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself
as the capstone.

scheming. Rather, living the truth in love, we should grow in every way
into him who is the head, Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and
held together by every supporting ligament, with the proper functioning
of each part, brings about the body's growth and builds itself up in love.

Chapter 1
He is the head of the body, the church...And you who once were alienated

Chapter 2
