First off, I'm pretty much a homebody these days. I don't like to go out much.
I spent the better part of my first 39 years going out to bars, concerts,
malls, laundry mats, grocery stores, parties, coffee houses, and traffic court
(just kidding). I enjoy staying home now. And no, I don't usually get lonely.
Loneliness is state of mind, I've found. I like my house. I love my pets and
my stereo and my computer and the TV and my books and writing and talking on
the phone. I don't have to go out to do those things.
I do go out to visit friends and family, work, walk in the park, play some
golf, see a really good or unique show, have dinner, or see a movie. It's not
like I'm some hermit; I just prefer to be home. Shopping? Hate it. Unless
it's the record store but even they bore me anymore because they don't carry
much selection. Grocery shopping is a favorite of mine. It always amazes me
how many different products we have in this country. Sometimes, I actually
stand in the international foods aisle (which also houses the spices -- oooohhh
ahhhhh) and read all of the labels for 30 minutes. Creepy, huh?
I love to cook and often do on the weekends or when I'm feeling particularly energetic after work, which ain't often. I am addicted to the Food Channel and I watch Survivor religiously. The only other show I really make time for is Carnivale on HBO but that season's over and no Soprano's in sight until next year. Not sure what happened to Six Feet Under which was another favorite of mine. K Street is awful. I used to watch Trading Spaces a lot but my interest in that has waned. I occasionally get sucked into one of those reality shows like The Bachelor or Fear Factor or The Real World.
I love to watch football, college and pro. I'm a big W.V.U. Mountaineer fan
and since my nephew's at Virginia Tech, I watch the Hokies play too. I like
Pittsburgh Panther football and of course, the Steelers. I do like to go to
games and, like so few people, actually enjoy baseball games at PNC Park. I
get out to see the Penguins pathetic performance once a year. I like watching
golf sometimes, especially when Annika is playing. Wimbledon is always a hoot
to
watch every year and I catch the U.S. Open occasionally. The WNBA is fun
(Liberty fan).
I can't leave this topic without mentioning that crazy show on Spike TV called Most Extreme Elimination Challenge . Have you seen this show? It's freaking HILARIOUS! It's Japanese and dubbed over with English. Contestants have to perform the most outrageous events to win. Sort of reminds me of the old Mystery Science Theater . Remember that gem? Only more of a Jackass theme.
When I vacation, it's usually at the beach. I really like Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, because it still has that small town feel but also plenty of night life. I haven't been to Florida in a long time but when I used to go, I went to Daytona, St. Augustine, Tampa, and the Keys. I'd like to start traveling more internationally. Greece, Ireland, Tibet, Switzerland, Jamaica, London, New Zealand, Australia, and Munich are on my list of places I'd like to visit. I like to camp but haven't done a lot of that in recent years. I've been too busy working on my houses, I guess. I think I have a fishing pole and tackle box around here somewhere. Maybe this Summer I'll get back to that again.
I really enjoy talking to new people. I can usually hold my own when I go out
and strike up a conversation with whomever's around. People's stories interest
me. Everyone's got one to tell, that's for sure. People that have led
interesting lives can captivate my interest for hours. People that have led
ordinary lives but can talk about them with passion are high up there on my
"ways to entertain Stacey" list. I suppose it's my old journalism skills
coming out when I start asking questions that open up interesting conversations
with people. Ask and ye shall receive, sometimes much more than you bargained
for.
There's a whole lot more that I like and don't like but that's enough for now. Hope you enjoyed your visit!
