When someone is diagnosed with a brain tumor, the patient and people close to the patient are suddenly faced with a very important and possibly confusing situation.
The Brain Tumor Support Group of Maine was formed to help patients, their families, and friends deal with the consequences of being diagnosed with a brain tumor by providing:
A Group Atmosphere for Discussion to help provide emotional support and a forum where people can learn how others have been able to deal with similar problems.
Resources to learn about the diagnosis of brain tumors, different treatments, other valuable information, and how to get answers.
General advice by identifying people and organizations who can possibly help with specific needs that a patient, or someone close to a patient, may have.
Access toGuest Speakers and an opportunity to ask questions of doctors and others who can lend advice and help people to understand their situation.
A Support Network including names and telephone numbers of people who have had/are having similar situations and have expressed interest in being contacted by others.
Information pamphlets, articles, books, and audio cassettes regarding brain tumors, cancer and treatments, and coping methods.
A Periodic Newsletter with news about the group and other pertinent information.
