Proto Grove of the Mystic Ash, ADF
near Cincinnati, OH

A little bit about why we chose this name:

In European legend the Ash stands supreme as the World Tree, a symbol of universality which spreads its limbs over every land and forms a link between the gods, mankind and the dead. This link was visualized as a road, bridge or ladder which reached from the Underworld to heaven. In early Britain, the Ash was associated with rebirth and new life, and through the tree sympathetic magic was attained. The Ash is ruled by the Sun and the Moon, which to us represents Balance. The most powerful symbols associated with the Ash are the world Tree and the Maypole. The wassailing bowl of the Druids, used to toast the harvest trees, was carved from the health-giving, protective Ash; and Ash was the traditional wood of the Yule log, burned to call back and celebrate the return of the sun-god at midwinter.

The Norse world tree, Yggdrasil, its branches extend over all the known worlds, its roots extend into three of them. The name Yggdrasil means Odin's Horse referencing the time Odin "rode" upon the tree and learned the runes. It is also sometimes referred to as Hoddmimir, Tree of Mimir, and Lærád or Lerad. It is usually called an Ash tree. The world tree was a symbol common to many societies. The tree connecting the three regions of man, heaven, and the underworld appears in eastern mythology.

We are an eclectic group that strive for perfection, knowledge and spirituality. All of our rituals are of the Celtic & Norse style.
