My MINI Update...
Well, the Mach Four was in the shop recently, and here's what was fixed.. (keep in mind, that it has just over 28 thousand miles on it...)
I originally took it in because the airbag warning light was on. While I was there, I thought I'd mention a plethora of other things which needed looking at, such as the drivers seat squeaking, check the brakes (the rear brakes would make a grinding sound on rare occasions), and to finally get the recall service done.
On the good side, I made sure that I secured a MINI loaner, not the Enterprise Saturn Rental Car Special. It was a Cooper, and boy, did I miss the extra power, but I was impressed that Towne MINI put snow tires on it, and that it had heated seats. Nice. Granted, I'd never pay extra for heated seats, but you better believe I'll make good use of them if I have them. My only problem with them is the 'High' setting gets really warm, too warm after a while, and the 'Low' setting is just not enough for cold winter days. So, needless to say, I left it on High, and was enjoying being uncomfortably warm while it was negative something outside. They also made sure that I could get a stick-shift. It's nice to have the option, especially in the winter, where I always feel safer in a manual than an automatic.
So, how was the service/what did they do? Well, they replaced a wiring harness (61-13-0-149-205 among other parts), lubed up the pivots on the seat frame (no more squeaks!), and replaced the front and rear brakes (34-11-6-765-446 Linings, 34-11-1-502-891 Brake Disc, 34-21-6-762-871 Repair Set, and 34-21-1-503-070 Brake Disc), replaced the right front caliper boot (34-11-6-768-458 Caliper Housing + fluid.
The ultra nice thing is that they also did the next inspection/regular service, even though the mile-count-down-to-service indicator said that I still had a good 300miles left before it was due. So even though it was not technically covered by the warranty, as the car didn't say it was time yet, they did it anyways. Nice.
