Erik...
I'm working on planning a run for Upstate NY Finger Lakes area for Saturday, August 21st, starting at the Prime Outlets Mall parking lot at 9 AM (on Route 318, from Geneva exit 42 from the west, and Waterloo exit 41 from the east), touring around Seneca, Cayuga & Keuka lakes, including Watkins Glen. If I can build the Watkins Glen track laps option in, I will. I will definitely be including the Watkins Glen village Grand Prix course. This will not be a high speed event ('I Brake For Buggies'), or a lot of twisty roads (though I'm looking for 'em), but the scenery is pretty, and we will pass 98% of the wineries (not PLANNED stops, but you'll know where they are to revisit!).
...
I have confirmation from the Watkins Glen Racetrack that we will be able to do track laps as part of their everyday run ($25 for 3 paced laps as the 'Thunder Road' tour). I am also looking into having lunch catered there immediately afterward...
If anyone wants to do the track laps, but can't join the rest of the run we will be at Watkins Glen racetrack at 11 am. Please let me know if you are interested in the lunch to follow, because I will need firm numbers for that. (Will post menu & cost details as I know them).
...
I have 15 rooms on hold at the Holiday Inn in Waterloo/Seneca Falls, 2468 NY State Route 414, Waterloo, NY 13165. Phone there is 315-539-5011. Booking code is MIN, group is Mini Coopers. The room rate is $114. Cutoff date for the reserve hold on the rooms is Tuesday, 8/2.
...
If anyone thinks they may be able to attend, please post here or send me a pm. I'm trying to make a good guess at numbers for the lunch planning. I know this is a busy time of year for people, so I'll leave this as flexible as we can, but having the lunch catered at the racetrack will require something like an accurate number.
I'm thinking it will be a number between 2 and 50. I'd appreciate any input to try to get a little closer approximation!

Pinstriping...
I'm not a huge fan of Pinstriping your car, but if you are, and you're in the Lockport NY area, I know of someone who does them for a darn good price. He starts at $60 (and up, of course) for single color pinstriping, which sounds like a good deal to me, especially if you consider that these are real, handpainted pinstripes. I haven't seen his work first hand, so you're on your own, but I do know that he did some work for someone who has a few rather nice classic cars.
If you're interested, let me know, and I'll give you the contact info...

Thank you...
Finally, someone gets that all small cars are not the same. How many reviews of the Aevo, where they compare it to a MINI just because it's small. Sorry, but there's a world of difference between the two cars. Warren Brown, staff writer for the Washington Post, understands this.
Erik...
I am big fan of small cars well done -- automobiles such as the Mazda3, Mini Cooper, Nissan Sentra and the Nissan March...
Those cars are economical. They drink modestly from fuel pumps. Their tailpipes offer minor offense to the air. They use little parking space. Yet, they have excellent handling, commendable acceleration and lots of personality. They understand the difference between "economical" and "cheap."
...
A cheap car gives you a low price and little else. Put another way, it meets minimal expectations for a minimal price. The Aveo LS hatchback is a cheap car.

MINIs in One Lap Of America...
MINI is making quite a showing in this year's One Lap of America, but the exciting news is that one of the teams is the MINI Club of WNY's very own Jack07734, and his wife. Another bit of exciting news, is that one of the other teams of MINI's is headed by Paulmon, the founder of the Southern Ontario MINI Club, and the owner of the MINI on the rather infamous Tuner Transformation (and yes, his roof graphics are gone...). Paul is also going to be sharing his experiences with the MINI community at large, with a blog that he started, Team No Name...
You can check out Paul's One Lap blog here, which includes sponsorship information.
There is another semi-local team out of Rochester, but well, I don't know them....
Erik...
Well this is it. My offical One Lap of America blog. I'm hoping to use this site consistently through my attempt to put together a shot at the One Lap of America.
For those that don't know what the One Lap of America is exacly I invite you to check out the history of One Lap. For those too lazy to read the history the One Lap of America (OLoA) started life as the 'Cannonball Run' (yes like the movie). It was a coast to coast dash across the USA. Suffice it to say that due to growing concerns over safety, and possibly litigation LOL, it only ran this way for some 5 years. Today the One Lap of America is part endurance race, part TRD rally, part SOLO1 races, part drag races. The list goes on. Basically it works like this. It's an 8 day event that covers over 5000 miles. In those 8 days competitors take place in 8+ events on tracks all around the US. The events range from everything to skid pad competitions, lapping time trials, drag racing and bracket racing. The '05 schedule isn't out yet but the format never changes that much from year to year.

More on MINIs and Motorcycles...
What is the connection between MINIs and motorcycles? I have noticed one, from random thumbs up, to a group of Harley guys and gals in front of a bar trying to get us to squeal our tires on a club ride one year. And apparently, I'm not the only one who sees a connection.
This was part of Road & Track's latest update on their long term test MINI.

The Mini is the closest thing to a motorcycle of any of our long-term cars, so we let our colleagues at sister magazine Cycle World put in their two cents

6(+1) Months of blogging
It's a little late for a 6 month blog update, but only by a week or so. So here it is...
Although it 'officially' started last December, I really didn't start it in earnest until January of this year. And since that time...
Unique Viewers: 2764
Visits including Reloads: 3157 (4109 according to my Sparklit counter)
Visitors via Referrers : 1574
Average hits per day: 15
Highest Day: 166
(Due to my infamous MINI vs Nomad entry being reposted on Motoringfile, which at the time, was still Bridger.us/mini)
Highest Month: March
(I think this was due to the MINI Robot story)
Most used Browser: IE 6
(No surprise there)
Highest Average Day: Thursday
(By quite a bit)
Top 3 Keywords: MINI (19%), Cooper (13%), blog (3%)
(Again, no surprise)
Top 3 Countries Accessing: USA (.com 80%), Canada (.ca 4%), UK (.uk 3%)
Top Three Referres: http://www.motoringfile.com/ (15%), http://www.bridger.us/mini/ (14%), http://www.motoringfile.com/2004/01/29/TheChevyMINIErrrNomad(12%)
(And keep in mind, as you can see, that the referrers from the old Bridger.us/mini are of course, counted differently from Motoringfile, so you can easily guess where a large amount of my traffic comes from)
Other odd search terms:
2.90% : Robot
1.99% : Scion
.52% : Nomad
.19% : Fake
Of course, I'm sure this is only interesting to me.
Either way, thanks for visiting...

BMW's Z4's sales down 25.4%
I'm a huge fan of how 'edgy' the Z4 looks, so I was quite happy to take one out for a test drive at Towne MINI's 2nd 'birthday' party. Dave, one of my club buddies, and I took one out for a quick test drive and well, were not as impressed as we felt that we should have been. Was it a nice car, you bet it was. But was it as fun as a MINI? Not even close. And with knowing that a MINI convertible was in the plans, we were left wanting more. Then, factor in the over $30,000 price tag, and we both felt quite happy to get in our MINIs and drive home, not once looking back.
So, needless to say, I wasn't very surprised when I saw this article up on Autoweek Online.
I know that there are many BMW fanatics out there, and that's cool. Hell, I really don't see myself driving anything other than a MINI, ever. But when you look at what you get in a Z4, and then line it up with a MCS cabrio, and factor in price, the MCS is a clear winner.
And again, I really like how the Z4 looks, and I do think it's a damn nice car, so my opinion is not clouded by the cult of MINI. (Come on, I've mentioned a few times here how if there was never a MCS, I'd likely be driving a Scion Xb).
Erik...
So, needless to say, I wasn't very surprised when I saw this article up on Autoweek Online.
The Z4, introduced in 2002, is the surprise loser. Sales of the BMW model have plunged 25.4 percent in the first six months of this year to 7,359 vehicles, and that's with hefty dealer cash on the hood. BMW is offering $3,500 for the 2.5-liter model and $4,500 for the 3.0 version.

Slowly Ramping Up....
I'm semi-moved, my cable service is back (after on the 3rd try I finally got a good answer of what I was actually to do. Of course, it was a bit late by then to have a seamless transition), so I'll slowly be getting into the swing of things again...
