Daytime Running Lights
In New York State, daytime running lights are not mandatory. So you can have your dealer turn them off next time your in the shop, or before you pick your MINI up. Why I mention this is because I can never spot a MINI until it's right in front of me when it has the DRLs enabled. Nor can someone with DRLs blink their highbeams in order to (hopefully) get slower moving traffic in the left lane to move over (not that anyone does the polite thing anymore anyways), or to say 'Hi' to a fellow motorist.
Not that I'm telling everyone to disable them, I just wanted to spread the word that if you don't really want them, you don't have to have them.
(heck, I'm a big boy, I can tell when it's getting dark... of course, every fall it seems like I'm the only one turning on my headlights before sundown...)

Changes to NYS Inspection
Once again, the elected officials know what's better for us than we do, and what's better for us now is more stringent inspection guidelines. The latest change is that 1996 or newer vehicles cannot have ANY error codes with regards to emissions equipment. The long and the short of it is that if you don't want to get burned at inspection time, you're going to want to have the codes scanned some time before you have to get your vehicle inspected. But the real kicker is that if you have aftermarket equipment such as a re-mapped chip/aftermarket chip, aftermarket exhaust, aftermarket intake, or anything of that nature, well, I hope you kept your old parts, because they can easily trigger an error code.

Of course, issues like this, or this problem are not as important...

(PS: Please ignore the ultra-leftist viewpoints of the websites. It's the facts that I'm pointing to, not the politics)

BMW Expanding the MINI Plant, again...
This news is from the CommentWire service of Datamonitor.
The article, also speaks glowingly on how the MINI brand has added to the BMW image, "This goldmine brand has become a major part of the manufacturer's expansion strategy, having exceeded all expectations".
I'm not going to quote much, as the website is more of a 'feed' service, and there's nothing about how big of an investment it will be, or what the target number will be (besides above the current 180,000 per year)...

Even more info about the Rally
The starting point for the rally will be in Outwater Park in Lockport. The rally will end in Krull Park in Olcott. The event should take about 2 hours to complete.
Registration fee at the time of the event will be $20.00. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize. The rally will include questions along the way so it is imperative that you have a navigator with you. The winners will be based on the amount of questions right and speed and time.
Along with the rally will be a picnic so therefore MINI Club of WNY asks that all participates of the rally bring a dish to pass. We will end up in a park area so that if any kiddies come along for the ride there should be things for them to do at the end.
and...
A rally is not a race. Is is a precision driving event in which the competitors follow a predetermined route through the countryside, at predetermined speeds. It is conducted on public roads and is always well within the legal speed limits. Each car is equipped with a driver, who simply drives where told to, and a navigator, who tells the driver what to do and where to go. Cars leave the starting location at one minute intervals. This prevents competitors from getting through the route by simply following the car ahead of them.
Competitors are given average speeds to drive at throughout the course of the rally. They may be required to drive at 42 mph on one road and then change to 35 mph on another road. Note: these are average speeds. Competitors must obey all stop signs, slow down for hazardous conditions, drive courteously in traffic and still manage to make their speeds average out to what is required by the instructions. This can be done by driving 3-5 mph faster than the stated speed. Competitors are scored on how closely they stick to the average speeds stated in the instructions. You will be given questions to be answered along the way in which you will be scored on. The answers to the questions can be found along the route. The competitor with the most answers right along with the closeness of their speed wins the rally. LET'S MOTOR.
Of course, more info can be found at the MINI Club of WNY, specifically this thread.
