I began working in polymer clay in
1991, but my fascination with flowers, color and artwork in
general has been a part of me ever since I can remember.
In fact, my parents report that "flower" (or some form of the
word!) was my very first word as a child.
I discovered
polymer clay in college, when a friend brought over a sampler
pack of clay and wanted to make beads to sell as she traveled
the country following her favorite band, the Grateful Dead.
We made beads together that afternoon, and she left the clay
at my apartment when she left on her trip. I was
immediately taken by this wonderful, colorful substance, and
it's been a love affair ever since.
One of the things
about polymer clay that has kept my attention for over 13
years is the incredible versatility of the medium. I
have used it to sculpt lifelike figurines of loved ones,
mimic natural materials such as wood, ivory and turquoise, and
have recently been enthralled with flower canes, which are
made in the style of the Venetian glass artists. It is a
medium that is accessible to all, and each pair of hands that
touch it creates a different and unique item. My work
has been influenced by other talented polymer clay artists
like Leigh Ross, Dawn Naylor, Victoria Hughes and Maureen
Carlson.
As a member of the
Southern Connecticut Polymer
Clay Guild, I have found kindred spirits who love this
medium as much as I do. It is my honor to serve as the
Vice President of the guild, and my goal is to bring a
larger awareness of this wonderful medium to the world.
Personally
speaking, I have a wonderful, beautiful, and creative 9
year old daughter named
Madeleine Rose (click on her name to see some of HER
polymer creations!), and an equally wonderful and beautiful
husband I like to call Fred. We proudly share our home
and our lives with a completely CRAZY Russian Blue kitten
named Tucker,
a rabbit named Pixie and the most gentle, loving, quirky Black
Lab/Great Dane named Yogi. We'll also never forget our
21 year old Maine Coon cat named Jasper who had to move on to
a better place in November 2005. Together we live in Ansonia,
Connecticut on the sunny side of the street in a place where
the neighbors still help each other out and everybody knows
your name. Life is good, you might say...and I consider
myself very lucky to have an artistic talent that makes the
world just a little more beautiful.
Thank you for
viewing my webpage, and I hope that my work has brightened
your day! |
