Transcriptions and Searchable Indexes for Ohio (all searches are believed to be free unless otherwise noted). Cuyahoga County Historical Marriage Index - 1810 - April, 1998. A service of the Cuyahoga County Probate Court. A word of caution: you sometimes have to be very creative to find the records you know are there. Cuyahoga County Probate Court Search Docket and Index System - Search the Cuyahoga County Probate Court docket and index. Marriage records 6-April-1998 to the present are indexed here. Also in this index are births and correction of birth; wills; guardianship; name change; trusts; parentage and other types of records. I'm not sure of the dates encompassed by this index. The earliest I found is a will on deposit filed in 1964. Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Genealogy and History - This site is still under construction but does have some early records online. This will quite an amazing site when it is finished. There is also a key to the marriage volumes for the historical marriage index here. CLENIX - Cleveland News Index - Part of the Cleveland Public Library online catalog. Obituaries from the PLAIN DEALER and the CLEVELAND PRESS are included from 1976 to the present. Search source citation information from THE PLAIN DEALER (1983-June 1999), CLEVELAND MAGAZINE (1983-present), NORTHERN OHIO LIVE (Sept. 1990-present), and OHIO MAGAZINE (Oct. 1990-present). Cleveland Necrology File - Another offering of the Cleveland Public Library. Obituaries from Cleveland Plain Dealer, 1850-1975, the Cleveland Herald, 1833, 1847-1848, 1876, 1878-1879 and the Cleveland Press, August 16, 1941 - 1975. Also included are local cemetery records, a small collection of of records from the Cleveland Bureau of Vital Statistics and some indexed items from the Annals of Cleveland. Cuyahoga County Recorder's Office - Search for documents filed with the Cuyahoga County Recorder's Office from 1946 to the present. Images of documents are also available. Greater Cleveland Genealogical Society - Check out the 1900 Ohio Census Transcription, the Cuyahoga County Alien Dockets transcription and the Maple Ridge Cemetery Transcription. Ohio Death Certificate Index, 1913 - 1937 - An offering of the Ohio Historical Society. Ordering information is also on the site. The Ohio Historical Society Archives/Research Tools - Lots of helpful information on what the Ohio Historical Society has to offer. Their catalog can be searched online also. Lake County Vital Records - Lake County Ohio Genweb page with links to various Lake County vital records transcriptions. Lake County Recorder's Office Document Index - Search for documents filed with the Lake County Recorder's Office from 1-January-1986 through 26-May-2002. Lorain County Recorder's Office Document Index - Search for documents filed with the Lorain County Recorder's Office from 1989 to the present. Requires free registration. Lorain County Obituaries - 1-November-2000 to present. Medina County Recorder's Office Document Index - This index is meant as a backup to the Medina County Recorder's Office official index. This one is a little intimating when you first use it so be sure to read the FAQ for search tips. I'm not sure how far back this index goes. In a random search of the surname Thompson, I located an entry for 1961. Other Ohio Genealogy Sites Ohio USGenWeb Archives - Free 'virtual library' of documents donated by RootsWeb users. Records include cemetery, census, obits, pension, church, land, postcards, maps & migration, and marriage. There is also a BMD Project. Ohio Past and Present Locations - Looking for a particular place in Ohio but aren't really sure where it's at? Or where is used to be? This is a good place to check. There are airports, cemeteries, post offices, parks and more. The OhGenWeb Project - Information on Ohio and links to useful Ohio information. Dagon's Graveyard Listings for Ohio - This is a large page and takes a while to load. It is a list of cemeteries in Ohio and their contact information. Ohio Department of Health Vital Records Information - Information on how to obtain copies of birth and death certificates, and marriage and divorce abstracts. Uncertified copies are no longer available. The Ohio Genealogical Society - Information about the library, catalog search, Society news. Marriage and naturalization records are among the many records the Archives holds.
