M24 Small Sagittarius Star Cloud
M24, the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud, is actually a section of one of the interior arms, the Norma Spiral arm, of our Milky Galaxy. Through a telescope countless stars are visible. It is framed by the dark dust clouds of the nearer Sagittarius-Carina Spiral arm of our galaxy. A bright open cluster, NGC 6603, is visible near the center, about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the photo. Two dark nebulae are silhouetted against M24, Barnard 93 and 92 (larger). They are visible to the upper right of NGC 6603. The red emission nebula near the bottom is IC 1283/84 and the blue reflection nebulae nearby are NGC 6589/90 and 6595.
