CURRENT PROJECTS . . .

Line C/D – Produced by crossing lines in 2001. Maintained and line bred for color since that time.

Photo 1: Backcross to C++Photo 2: C++ C+ male wild born 4-7-02This nice young male (Far right: Line C/D male wild born 4-7-02, backcross to C) came from a cross with a 50% wild Koi male. He has been paired with an aunt (Second from left: Backcross to Line C). This nearly solid orange female, has slightly better color than his mother. I have their first spawn from 12/23/02. It came free-swimming yesterday, and looks good.

Update 7/26/03: This pair did produce very nice offspring but nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary.

Update 10/03/04: During the past year I have done a number of crosses using Line CD fish.  Some of these have been sibling pairs.  Others have been CD crossed to Line C.  There have been some good results.  The following photos show the offspring of CD sibling.  These are F-3 fish.

Update 12/12/04: I have a number of very nice C/D fish of all ages.  Orange color is clear and bright.  Body, finnage and vigor are also good.  Below is another group of five month old fish.

Update 04/12/05: I am currently raising a spawn of Koi from one of my best pairs.  Although there is a wide variation in the degree of coverage and intensity of orange, all of the fry in the spawn show good color, except one.  I noticed this fish about three weeks ago and placed a tag on the tank to make sure that I didn't lost track of it.  Many years ago, this tag would have been placed on a tank of black and white fish with one orange fish in it. The fish in this photo are 7 weeks old.  They don’t photograph well at this size.  Most of the fry in this photo will end up as very dark orange fish.
