CURRENT PROJECTS . . .
Line A/C – Produced by crossing lines in 1999. Maintained and line bred for color since that time.
Far left: This is the first generation where line AC has shown
abdominal color. I am very pleased to see this. I am already raising a
spawn from this sibling pair. For full screen image of the female, please select the resolution is best
suited, 1095x1191 254.3kb or
800x870 197.4kb
Second from the left: Because their parents produced such nice
offspring, I decided to raise one more spawn from them. Some of
the fry in this spawn will probably be better than this pair. I
have included a picture of one of them at twelve weeks of age.
I believe that 2003 might be one where large strides will be made in
the development of Koi color. There are more serious breeders pursuing
this goal than ever before, and more quality breeding stock available.
I would like to wish everyone the best of luck with your projects
during this new year.
Update 7/26/03:
The AC line continues to produce beautiful orange fish. Not all show
abdominal or ventral color but many of them do. The small, nearly
solid fish shown above, has matured and appears to be a female. I am
currently attempting to pair her with C/D male
fish that is a personal favorite of mine (shown below).
This is a young male that I am attempting to pair with the above female.
He was born in April of 2002 and has some wild blood.
For full screen images, please choose the resolution that is best suited.
For Female photo: 1056x775 90.8kb or
440x600 61.8kb
For Male photo:
1263x1200 260.3kb,
900x855 111.4kb, and
632x600 101.8kb.
Update 12/12/04: Every now and then you get lucky. The
two fish from the pair shown above are very different from each other. The female has nice clear orange color
with good body coverage. She is solid on her other side. The male is
much darker and has continued to darken to the point of being almost red.
I had a feeling this combination might produce some nice offspring, but didn't
get around to keeping a spawn from them until a few months ago. The
results look good so far.
These are a few
that I separated from the group. Time will tell how they develop.
