You can influence which programs we air by voting thumbs-up, thumbs-down, wish, or buy in your player window. Each vote is tabulated and added to our database. When you disconnect during a program, it results in a negative rating for the show running at the time. HINT: by clicking the "buy" button you will garner a higher rating than clicking the "wish" or "thumbs-up" button, and you are under no obligation to buy anything. And if you really like a program, you can click all three, "buy" "wish", and "thumbs-up" buttons.

Dear Listeners,

July is here, and the summer listening season has begun.

I'd like to explain what will be happening at Golden Age OTR during July, August, and beyond.

You are probably aware of our Month-By-Month programming format. Simply put, all programs on our playlist originally aired during the current month. This breathes life into old time radio shows, giving them a sense of timeliness, even though they were recorded 50, 60, even 70 years ago.

Back then, most primetime radio programs went into hiatus (as TV shows do now) for a few months during the summer. This gave the actors time to rest, vacation, or try out other areas of their talent. It also gave the writers time to come up with new and interesting plots for the fall listening season.

While re-runs did occur, many times a new "summer replacement show" was tried out in the time slot of our favorite show. As an example, Jack Benny gave-up his time slot for an entire summer to a little known comedian named Jack Paar.

This summer on Golden Age OTR, you will hear some of these summer replacement and special broadcast programs.

Now a little about the future of Golden age OTR:

Recently, Live 365 has raised the cost to broadcasters by a significant amount.

Along with this increase, it also includes a drastic reduction of free listener slots (can you say "double whammy")

This is due to Internet royalty issues, the RIAA, DMCA of 1998, Soundexchange, Copyright Royalty Board, etc. While it is true that most old time radio shows that are in public domain are not subject to royalty charges, being a member of Live365 we must pay the fees anyway.

Golden Age OTR gets a very small monthly commission from VIP Listener Hours. VIP's are listeners that pay a fee to listen to Live 365 stations add-free. How small, you ask? As of June 26th, 2008 for every VIP listening hour, we received $.0041 (yes, you read correctly, less than a half a penny for each VIP listening hour). Still, it adds up. And if it were not for the VIP awards program, Golden Age OTR would not be on the air today. So let me give a B I G THANK YOU to all VIP's listening to our station.

Last year, VIP rewards were able to cover the cost of our Live 365 account. At the present rate of VIP Listener Hour's, we will be able to renew our Live365 account for another year, but at the very basic "bare bones" minimum account offer. This would allow VIP's to listen anytime without ever being shut out (This is always the case regarding VIP's). However, it would limit our free listener slots to 5 at a time. (Note: Golden Age OTR almost always has more than 5 free listeners online). What this means is that for free listeners, when trying to connect to us, you will often get a "station full" notice, and an invite you to become a VIP so that you are not shut out again, or try back later.

The other option would be for us to renew at the next higher level, but for a 6-month period. This would provide more free listener slots (10 total), but would expire after 6 months, most likely causing Golden Age OTR to cease broadcasting because of not meeting the live 365 station fees. (We get the greatest discount when renewing for 1 year)

Our renewal date is mid September, so nothing will change until then.

I'll keep you posted,

Dave - Golden Age OTR
