Do you think the Jersey Devil is both male and female and multiplies like cells can?
Perhaps. Ever see Jurassic Park? In that movie, they tell about the reptiles who are able to change gender in a same-sex community for the purposes of reproduction. Maybe the Jersey Devil has that trait. Or perhaps they are asexual, like worms, and can mate with any other worm. Definitely a possibility though, I wouldn't rule it out.
Do you think that the Blair Witch was based on the Jersey Devil? Even though there have been no reports of it hurting anyone, the directors wanted to make it scary, so they changed a few things?
Well, I'd say there are definite connections. But really, when you look at it, there are stories and legends similar to the Jersey Devil all throughout this country. Just a little more proof that there is so much out there that we just don't understand. The Devil Hunters and I felt a connection to that movie, since the kids in the film were doing exactly what we had been doing long before we even heard of the movie! Luckily, we've all made it out of our hunts unscathed.
Based on my research, I've gotten the impression that the Jersey Devil is nocturnal. Any thoughts?
I completely agree with you! For the most part, the Jersey Devil seems to be most active during the dusk hours, and throughout the night. It is uncommon to find a Jersey Devil sighting taking place around noon or so.
Could the Jersey Devil be a new species or government experiment?
Well, if I had to pick one, I'd go with the new species theory. Although I don't know how "new" you'd consider it, since it's been around for at least 250+ years, not counting old Indian legends. As for the government experiment, probably not, since the legend and creature itself is older than the government of this country! But perhaps it is the result of some sort of scientific development. It has definitely been accredited to witchcraft, something that was fairly common around the time of the legend's birth.
Is the big red eye related to the Jersey Devil?
Big Red Eye is the New Jersey version of Bigfoot, and while some of the sightings could have been either one, I still think that they are two separate creatures. The descriptions of each differ greatly (BRE fitting the hairy man description, Jersey Devil being more like a mutated deer with wings).
|
Was the Jersey Devil responsible for the deaths of the people from the show Fact or Fiction (from the movie The Last Broadcast)?
No, not at all. I don't want to ruin the plot for anyone, but the murderer in that film is in fact human. The movie itself isn't very Jersey Devil related at all, it merely mentions the creature (it's the goal of the entire film shoot for the characters), and then at the end it has a reading from the McCloy-Miller Jersey Devil book.
Did the Jersey Devil kill its mother?
That depends on which version of the legend you believe in. Some say that yes, he did. That legend says that when the creature was born, he killed and ate everyone in the room. Other versions say that he just left the house, and was seen years later perched on the fence outside Mother Leeds' home, where she would feed it regularly for years.
If the Jersey Devil can fly, then why isn't it seen flying all over the place?
I believe that the Jersey Devil is a stealthy little creature. I think it has become very elusive during its lifetime, for the sake of its own survival. It has probably seen throughout its encounters with man that our intentions are usually to destroy it. Therefore, knowing that, the Jersey Devil has been avoiding contact with man on purpose. Ever since 1909, most of its encounters have seemed to be accidental, and usually within the woods. I guess that's the only speculation I can offer on that one.
Have you tried setting harmless bait traps in the pine barrens just for photographical purposes?
No, but that is a good suggestion! Just have to find something in particular that we could use that is known as a favorite food of the Jersey Devil, I guess. Unfortunately the first thing that comes to mind is a dog, and I could never sacrifice a poor dog like that. Perhaps we could do something similar to what shark hunters do, dumping blood and fish chunks into the water for them to smell... Thanks for the idea, we'll try it and let you know how it works!
If it would attack someone, how do you think it would do it?
Well, let me just clarify that I don't think that would happen, BUT for argument's sake, if it did, I think that it has a sort of bird-like attack, usually it is seen hovering above its victims. I can only speculate on the rest, perhaps it has highly developed front limbs, but there's really no way to confirm that. Lots of people have commented on the teeth though, I'm sure they come in handy.
