Why are there a lot of pictures of the Jersey Devil, and they all look different?
Well, at this point, the only "pictures" have been artist's renditions, based on reports from those who have seen it. And, strangely enough, there are a lot of Jersey Devil characteristics that people can't seem to agree on. Hopefully we'll get a real picture eventually, and then all the doubts and arguments can be put to an end.
Have you ever seen the Jersey Devil?
Unfortunately, no. I do believe that I had a "close encounter" with it once while on a hunt though, when we heard a strange, bone-chilling scream. Who knows, maybe I'll be changing this answer soon enough...
So if this demon happens to exist, how does it hide from the "hunters"? Does it vanish into thin air? Or does it become invisible? Or does it just blind the person so that it can escape? Does it torture humans?
Good question. I'm not quite sure how it has managed to escape so many times. Perhaps it is supernatural, or maybe it is just a highly intelligent creature that knows how to blend in with its surroundings very well. As for torturing humans, I still have never heard of it attacking a person - but it has been credited with attacking many dogs, including rather large ones.
Is the Jersey Devil immortal?
This is a tough one, and unfortunately it's still unknown. Some believe that it is, since it has lasted for over 250 years, and it seems to do things that normal creatures cannot. Also, don't forget that it has been burned, shot, chased, and hunted, to no avail. Once it had a cannonball shot through its wing, and it continued to fly, seemingly unaffected. I'm not too sure on what my opinion is. I tend to believe more in the fact that it could be a "flock" of Jersey Devils, but you never know...
Are the NJ Devils hockey team named after this creature?
Yes indeed they are. In fact, the Jersey Devil became the state's official demon in the 1930's, and also gave its namesake to the state's hockey team. Nowadays, that's probably one of the only places people hear of the Jersey Devil, but it's good publicity for the legend anyway...
|
Is there any evidence of the Jersey Devil being in any other states besides New Jersey?
Yes! It has been seen in both Pennsylvania and New York, and quite frequently at some times. I have been getting reports from other states such as Ohio and Virginia that could be accredited to the Jersey Devil as well, certain aspects of their sightings or footprints match the descriptions of our own local beast in New Jersey. We also had a bit of rivalry with Texas back in the 1930's, who were witnessing a similar creature that they called "Big Bird".
Is there more than one Jersey Devil?
I do believe that there is a definite possibility that more than one of these creatures exist. If it is in fact just an undiscovered biological creature, then logic says there would have to be more than one. The oldest living creature (besides plants) are the Giant Tortoises, and the oldest that they get is 130 years. The Jersey Devil legend is 265 years old, not to mention the fact that it has "died" twice (eerie remains of an unidentifiable creature have been found on more than one occasion, yet sightings have continued).
Do you think that a lot of the sightings are because of the "Devil Hunters" group you started... it's a way to keep the legend alive?
Good question, and it's definitely something we worried about. But after this page was put up, suddenly all sorts of people began coming out of their silence, and although I get some recent sightings reports, I also have many people who saw something years back and thought they were crazy. I think that the Devil Hunters have brought back the Jersey Devil "stir", but I don't think that we are the whole reason for the recent sightings.
Does the Jersey Devil still exist?
I would say yes. I have been continuously bombarded with sightings, including very recent ones. And our Devil Hunts have become filled with odd things. I think he's still out there, hiding somewhere, watching...
Is the Jersey Devil real?
I believe wholeheartedly, yes. And so do 60% of the residents in New Jersey. I think there is too much evidence for it to be just a story. And recently, with some of the wierd things that have been happening to us (the Devil Hunters), I definitely think there is something out there, and it may be smarter than we had estimated... I'll get back to you on what I mean by that...
