When did the myth of the Jersey Devil start and how?
The most commonly known beginning is 1735, and the sightings became big around 1740. But there are Indian legends describing a creature with similar characteristics of the Jersey Devil, so it's really hard to pinpoint exactly when the legend came about. I'm sure it has developed quite a bit over the years as well.

Are you capturing the Jersey Devil? If yes, why?
Our intent is not to catch it, but to prove its existence. We want documented proof that is undeniably true. We're not out to start some freak show, parading it around. In fact, we believe that it should be left alone peacefully - our goal is to show everyone that there is something out there!

What are other names for the Jersey Devil?
There's a bunch... the original nickname of the beast was the Leeds Devil, named obviously after its supposed family. Other names have been Jabberwock... I know there's more, I'll get back to you on that.

What do you think of the possibility that the Jersey Devil was a freak of evolution, (which does happen), and that it was a regular child with a tail, horns, and pointy ears?
It is very possible, I would say. Back in the 1700's, anything abnormal was considered to be influenced by the devil. The child could have been even less of a freak - perhaps a Downs Syndrome baby - but something that they had never seen before, and feared. The 1700's was a period plagued with witchcraft trials, where everyone was out to blame black magic for the things they could not explain.

I have read your sightings report and saw that the size of the creature varied, so I ask is there more than one creature or does it change sizes?
That is one of the discrepancies behind the Jersey Devil legend, actually. The size usually ranges between 4 and 7 feet tall. I lean more towards the possibility of more than one creature in the "Jersey Devil family," but who knows? Perhaps it does have some sort of shape-changing abilities...

Where is the best place to find <the Jersey Devil>? Also, is there a certain time of night to find him?
There are several towns in New Jersey that seem to be "hot spots" for Jersey Devil activity. These areas vary throughout the years. Right now, I would say that the current hot spots for the 90's have been Bamber Lake (there have been a lot of recent sightings out there!), Jackson, and the inevitable Pine Barrens (the description given when people aren't exactly sure where they are, just somewhere in the woods. The Pine Barrens take up 1/3 of the state, so it's hard to pinpoint where it is exactly). As for hunting times, I'd have to say that dusk seems his favorite time to come out of hiding.

If you believe the Jersey Devil to be an unclassified biological entity, how would your theory co-relate to the legend of "Mother Leeds' Devil Child"? Why hasn't a horror movie ever been made based on the legend (or has it)?
I believe that the creature in the pine barrens is something that remains undiscovered to this day. As for the legend aspects, I would tend to believe that it is based upon old pine barrens stories told and passed down over the years. Back in that era, people seemed to create stories to explain things they didn't understand. Perhaps that is what occurred with the Jersey Devil. As for horror movies, the only things close to that would be the X-Files Jersey Devil episode (which was loosely based on the legend, and seemed more like some strange wild people living in the Pine Barrens) and "The Last Broadcast", a movie about 4 people who go into the woods to find the Jersey Devil and only one returns (that movie revolves more around the murder, and really doesn't delve too deep into the legend itself). The legend would certainly make an excellent horror movie, except for the fact that there are no actual reports of the Jersey Devil ever hurting a human (or at least none that I've come across). There's a new movie in the works right now, called "The Thirteenth Child" - let's see how this one takes on the legend.

Leut, how long have you been hunting the NJ Devil?
I've been interested in hunting it for about 9 or 10 years now, but not until the Devil Hunters formed in May of 1999 did I actually go out in search. I've certainly been doing enough information hunting, though.

Are there any pictures of the Jersey Devil?
Well, there is a picture of a figure that has a similar shape as the Jersey Devil, and it was taken somewhere in South Jersey. Click here to view that image.

What are you <Devil Hunters> going to do with it after you actually discover it?
Well, we'll have a lot of homework to do! First things first, we're going to have to photograph, film, and document as much of it as possible. Our intent is not to capture it. We're merely out to find the truth and expose it to all.
