Big Winner Invitational USA GoJu Tournament Cassanova!
August 2, 2003 Sensei Cassanova Competed in Kata, Kumite and Open Kumite taking first in both Kata and Kumite and fighting for the third year in a row in the mens open Kumite, taking home the grand championship. Sara took three first places this tournament Weapons, Kata and Kumite and missed on a well deserved Grand Championship in the Womens Open Taking a third Place. We believe one of the judges had his flags crossed ohh well thats how the cookie crumbles NEXT YEAR THAT GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP IS OURS! Nancy took three 2nds this tournament in weapons, kata and Kumite I can see a weapons grand championship in Nancy's future taking a 4th in Womens open kumite. The big surprise was Ashley I expected her to do well in her division but she did it one better and brought home a first place one division up! as well as a first in kata you go girl! Sensei Tapioca brought home two first place's black belt division and is looking forward to joining open womens kumite. Sensei Devine brought home a first place in kata 5 months pregnant and still performing beautifully you go woman! Our Resident Brown Belt Ingridd who's been on sabatical has returned to us and took first place kumite and 1st place runner up in womens Open. Josh and Robert both took first places in their Kata and Kumite division with no competition in site! Matt performed the best kata in his division but the main judge said he was given the worst scores because of his presentation. Your too good to let this happen Matt! Robbie didnt fight his fight this tournament it happens dont worry theres always tomorrow! Kyoshi is loosing too much weight too fast and almost lost his Gi Pants while performing Seisun Kata OUCH!!! (Kyoshi was suppose to be doing a self defense demonstration they caught him off guard with seisun kata request!) Kyoshi lost 300.00 this tournament (money fell out of wallet nobody said anything) so beware Kyoshi is quite a bit grumpy!

July 20, 2003 Nancy Competed in weapons, kata and kumite she placed 1st in all Three divisions Doing A splendid Bo Kata and earning her Kata and Kumite Trophies against decent competition. Sara also Competed in weapons, kata and kumite she placed 1st in all Three of her divisions as well she had competition in Kata but none in fighting or weapons (Maybe she scared away her fighting competition). Ashley at her Second tournament has improved greatly in her fighting ability and is showing more confidence in her kata! She brought home two second place trophies though i belive she could have gotten a first in her fighting. Brian gave a great show performing Gei sakko Atemi Waza in a five man competition tieing for first and performing the same kate even stronger the second time gaining a first place in forms! He didnt fight his fight however trying to punch a guy shorter then him in the belly with a reverse punch! Kolongi came out of retirement earning 3rd place in Kata and loosing to the 1st place winner in Kumite he will get better and stronger with practice. This tournament was fought with John Strout in mind we miss you already.

June 29, 2003 Sara Competed in weapons, kata and kumite she placed 3rd in weapons tying for second loosing to a decision (We wont talk about how she lost the decision). but her big win was in her forms competition. A beautiful performance of Saifa tying for first place causing a spectacular performance of Gei Sacko Dai, a splendid upgrade that landed her once again tied for first. The judges decided this one needed a coin toss as her competition also performed incredible techniques as well. Sara ended up comming home with second place trophy but has earned first place honors Great Job! Ashley at her first tournament has accomplished the spirit of Goju! She made friends competed well and did not freeze under the pressure! She also came home with two 3rd place trophies. Michelle once again has brought home a trophy in both divisions she entered. This time she had tough competition and brought home two second place trophies. John placed 3rd performing Con kah go Kata, he was a bit out of his fighting game and didnt place revenge shall be his at July's tournament he wants to move on with a BANG when he leaves us to open his own school in Florida! (he will be back when he can)

June 14, 2003 John took two first place trophies cutting through the competition like a hot knife through melted butter. Brian brought home two first place trophies with no competition in sight. Nancy earned a well deserved first place in kata and a third in kumite (im expecting her to destroy that girl in two weeks) Both Kyla and Clayton were nervous yet they still managed to come home with a trophy or two. The big surprise peter listend to sensei's advice at the last minute and came home with 3rd place kumite. giving a fantastic show 4 to 0 making a comeback with hand techniques 4 to 4 before loosing 1st place position and outclassing his opponent in the 3rd place fight! You go Peter.

Whats happening around the DoJo? Well we had a blast at last tournament April 11th 2003.
Michelle took 3 first places! Yay You!, Marko took a 3rd place (cheated out of a deserved second) Kyoshi was watching so dont fret! Lord brought home a second place Eat Em Up, Brian performed his Kata injured and placed 5th Crazy but spirited! John placed 3rd fighting and missed a well deserved place in kata. Nancy brought home 1st in kata and 2nd fighting (thanks for putting that 1st place in the DoJo. Devine took a 3rd place in Kumite. Students who I wont name fought each other first round to disqualify themselves out of places (bad job especially after i told you not to do that) Great weapons kata from Nathan too bad you were one of the first three to go up. Dylan you left to quick they were calling you back to award you a trophy for their mistake ooopps! A big thank you to everybody who came out for this tournament and my special thanks to all of you who stayed for the photo shots! Parents you were great!

Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Zumar X Mayo Sensei's Karate-Do.
