I guess it isn't a good sign when you begin a section with a disclaimer, but here I go...

The key thing to remember when reading this section is that these are all suggestions - by this I mean, these are things that have worked for other people (or not worked) but it does not mean they are the answer for you. They might only be guidelines to directions to try out, and you might find the very thing we say doesn't work for us, works for you!

That being said, this page is broken up into several sections. The first section is on actual painting techniques - how to work the chalk, how to build up and get vibrancy in your painting, differences in working on the ground or canvas, and things to consider when choosing what you are going to draw. The second section is on pastels - how different pastels work, comments on various brands of pastels, and how to make your own pastels, along with recipes and recommendations for pigments. The last section is on the actual festival - ways to get your drawings down on the ground accurately, etiquette at a festival for when you work in close quarters, and a suggested list of items you might want to bring to a festival to be better prepared.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT I AM CONSTANTLY LOOKING FOR UPDATES TO THIS SECTION. I have based it on the experiences I am aware of (and certainly do not claim to be aware of it all). If you have comments, suggestions or methods that have worked for you, please send them on! I am more than open to adding more info and further pages to this section if the situation warrants it.
