Dennis Bauer Seminar a Great Success!

With participants from six states and a total of 16 Boxers, the Dennis Bauer training seminar held July 18th through the 20th was a great success, and a wonderful learning experience for all involved. Participants and spectators got first hand experience in the training methods of Manfred Kleinmann, methods that have produced many of Germany's top winning Boxers in the past 20 years.

Beginning on Friday, one session of obedience and two sessions of protection work were done with all participants' dogs each day. On Saturday and Sunday, tracking was done with all dogs as well. Because of the variety of ages and training experience of the participating handlers and dogs, seminar attendees were able to see not only the start of most exercises, but also problem solving for some typically problematic exercises, like retrieving and the stand. It would be impossible to cover all of the material discussed over the three days in this article, but the good news is that videotaping was done all three days. A tape of the seminar highlights will be made available for sale very soon!  All seminar participants agreed, this was a very special weekend. It is a very rare occurrence to have such specific and effective training aimed at our breed, especially with regards to schutzhund training. The differences between our breed and those breeds commonly used in working competitions were continually explained by Dennis, which will enable participants to return to their home clubs to explain how their breed, and specifically, their dog, need to be worked
