The Ice Queen Premieres!

Ok, the series is finally debuting in a matter of hours. Here's the press release and some sample images:

January 3rd, 2005-- Over the course of a single night, the trail of murder leads from a modern office complex to a quiet condo neighborhood in "The Ice Queen," a new webcomic by Joe Zabel.

The online graphic novel premieres today, and is scheduled to run Monday through Friday as a regular feature of Modern Tales, the premiere subscription service for quality webcomics.

The story concerns a brutal killing in a parking deck, and a female witness who barely escapes the perpetrator's clutches. Amateur sleuths Raymond Fish and Delphinia "Finn" Morgan set out to find the killer's identity while protecting the woman from a grim revenge.

The series is Zabel's first daily webcomic. Zabel's previous graphic novels for Modern Tales are "The Fear Mongers" and "Return of the Green Skull", the latter being another saga featuring Ray and Finn. The new series will assume a darker and more suspenseful tone than their previous outing, according to Zabel.

Zabel's artwork is a combination of digital photography and 3D "Poser" renderings. The technique produces a photorealistic effect that enhances his atmospheric narratives. After completing The Fear Mongers in the summer of 2004, Zabel spent the intervening months upgrading to Poser 5 and further refining his technique, to produce his most polished artwork ever.
