Our Vacation at Walt Disney World
Magic Kingdom
On March 1st we started an 8 day vacation at Walt Disney World. At long last we were celebrating our birthdays as we had planned for so long.

The weather was absolutely perfect with sunny days in the low 80s ever day.

We hit all the Disney parks but enjoyed EPCOT the best where we found lots of special millennium celebrations.

We stayed at the Polynesian Resort right in the heart of all that was going on. We started our visit with official lai greetings as we settled in to the tropical  environment
We had absolutely no problem acting like kids as we took in all the sights, sounds, attractions, and food to be offered.  Here you see us at the MGM studios where Jim found Tiggr who was nice enough to pose with him.

Ken found a prop from his favorite movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still. He had that look on his face a lot. He really has to get out more.

There were plenty of places to find a bite to eat like the streets of Paris where we found a bakery or the little pastry shop in Norway where we found  all sorts of fattening goodies.

We also had great meals in many many  restaurants. We were treated to Italian specialties in Alfredo's and hardy German food in the biergarden that also provided fun entertainment. These were our two favorite places to eat.

Now when it came to excitement, we found plenty of fun, like the tower of terror where we dropped 13 stories in an elevator. Did I say fun?
Then we tried being crash dummies at the GM attraction where riders go around a test track manuvering and testing a vehical at speeds up to 64 mph.

On the Rock-n-Roll coaster we accelerated to 60 MPH in only 2.8 seconds before flipping upside down... fun huh?
To celebrate the millennium, there were several special events in EPCOT each night that we enjoyed over and over.

Here we see one of the puppet-like characters in the Tapestry of Nations parade. The 120 puppets measure 12-17 feet high and are designed in bold color with flapping wings and arms and are worn by dancing puppeteers that swing and sway to music.

The show provided a barrage of sight, sound and color as these larger than life puppets weave their way around the world showcase along with dancers and drummers as they move to an uplifting musical score and are joined by a 30 voice chorus.  It was something that had to be experienced to be appreciated.

As a sensational finale to each night, we were presented with the most thrilling and technically complex show ever created for  EPCOT, IllumiNations 2000. It was a pyrotechnic extravaganza that included thousands of fireworks, full color lasers, fountains, fire and lights all synchronized to a wonderful score of music that produced an emotional and memorable show.
