ACTIVITY: The President’s Holiday Party

YOUR INVESTIGATION:


You are a world renowned party planner for some of the most famous people in the world. You are about to plan one of your most important parties.
The President of the United States has asked you to plan a holiday party for him which will be held around December 25th. He will have guests at this party from many countries around the world.

Select five countries from around the world that celebrate holidays around December 25th. Find out what customs and traditions are generally associated with celebrating those holidays. Plan a party activity that lets each country’s representatives share their culture, traditions, and holiday customs.

Use ClarisWorks (or other painting program) painting tools and clip art from the clip art folder to create a scene of how the president might decorate the party room so his guests will feel at home.



QUESTIONS TO GUIDE YOU:

1. On what continent is each country located?
2. What is the name of the holiday celebrated in each of the countries you chose?
3. For each country, can you locate two customs or traditions associated with the holiday?
