ACTIVITY TITLE: "HERE, HAVE SOME MORE CHICKEN SALAD"
SUBJECT AREA: Health, Human Body, Science, Language
YOUR INVESTIGATION:
You have, once again, been invited for Aunt Tildie's Annual Family Reunion. It's not that you don't enjoy seeing the cousins, throwing horseshoes, and beating Uncle Charlie at checkers. The problem is that you have noticed that a number of family members feel a bit ill afterwards. Within a day or two, some relatives are experiencing abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. This year you are determined to find out if it's coincidence or if this is a case of possible food poisoning (not that your sweet Aunt Tildie is doing it on purpose.)
Prepare a newsletter, to be sent to your family members, letting them know what you have discovered about the mysterious ailment.
QUESTIONS TO GUIDE YOU:
1. Could the time of year make a difference?
2. What foods should Aunt Tildie leave off the menu that could be the culprit?
3. Check the kitchen. How could she make sure that this doesn't happen again next year?
4. What precautions would you issue to your family in your newsletter?
