Activity Title: A Current Events Nightmare

Subject Areas:
Secondary English/Language Arts, Social Studies

Your Investigation:

It's your turn to share a current event with your class tomorrow, but wouldn't you know it: a good friend of your teacher, namely the mayor of New York, will be visiting your class with the Prime Minister of England and the Governor of Texas.

Now, you aren't one to take a challenge lying down! You have decided to make this current events presentation relevant to your entire audience.

Erom the sites listed below, select a New York City newspaper, a Texas newspaper, and an English newspaper.

Your goal: to provide a current event relevant to each member of your esteemed audience.

Questions To Guide You:

1. Is there a "lead" (front page) news story in each region that is unique? Amaze your guests by summarizing a "local" story from these three regions.

2. On the contrary, have you found a story that appears in all
three newspapers? If so, you've hit the jackpot!
a) Read the articles. How are they similar?
b) How are they different?
c) Explain why this story is relevant to people in all three regions.
