The 1940's

The 1940's began with John Certuse, former standout end for the 1930 and 1931 teams taking over as head coach and ending with James Kelly, his former mentor back as the head coach for a second stint. The 1940's were not as productive as the 1930's and even included a winless season. The team finished with an overall record of 42-44-10 (.490) for the decade.

-The game vs. St Raphael was billed as the 1st night game in Mansfield Hornet history. It was to be played under the lights at Pawtucket Stadium. Originally the game was scheduled for an 8:30 pm start, but was moved to 5:30 because the High School Football game originally schedule for Friday night 10/6 was rained out and rescheduled for Saturday night. Since sunset was at 5:17 pm this game can still be considered Mansfield's 1st night game.
