Past News Highlights...

7/8/06 - Blue Northern was well received at the Sausage Festival.

5/28/06 - A newly regrouped Blue Northern played for an enthusiastic crowd at the Lompoc Cafe in Bar Harbor, Maine on Saturday, May 27th.  Joining Pete, Gregg and Paul are Jim Coffman on fiddle and mandolin and David Manksi on upright bass.  We still hang out and pick with Sepp Huber, who's spending time playing with Live Bait, Angeline the Baker, and Shush, and Dave Lewis, who is playing with his son Jeff in the Jeff Lewis Trio.

1/20/06 - Pete Henry Davis has a solo CD out. The Jeff Lewis Trio, with Dave Lewis and Sepp Huber, opened for Grammy award winner Tim O'Brien at the Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth, Maine.

10/27/03 - Why So Blue is reviewed in Bluegrass Unlimited, highlights include:

Blue Northern carries on a popular tradition of putting the blue in bluegrass. The title tune... portrays the pain and loss of separation with aching skill and simplicity... Many of the tunes here are standouts recalling the early days of country music... The last cut... softly and mournfully covers familiar bluegrass territory in a style that reminds the listener of Bob Dylan's "John Wesley Hardin" or Nashville Skyline-era recordings. Sparse, simple arrangements and [a] dry, haunting vocal delivery leave a deep impression of a man's sorrow... if the blue side of bluegrass strikes a deep chord with you, Blue Northern will leave its mark on your soul.

10/15/03 - The Bangor Daily News carried an article about the upcoming DADGAD Coffeehouse concert on October 18th.

6/11/03 - Blue Northern is Klarity's artist of the month for June 2003.

6/5/03 - Check out a nice 5-bottle review of Why So Blue by the Beer Guy in the June 2003 Face Magazine, here are some excerpts:

An unusually genuine, five-piece, acoustic band who make music with such honesty, it’s inspirational... What I like best about this band is their emphasis on the song. They never sink into the rut of virtuosic instrumentation. They play only the notes they need to play... For the most part, these guys can all write... why Nashville isn’t knocking down their doors is beyond me... Put simply, these guys play well together. Blue Northern is a really good band.

5/1/03 - Blue Northern releases their first CD, Why So Blue
