Dux Georgius Frutex

Ounce upon a time a mythical empire was ruled by a great leader by the name of Dux Georgius Frutex (Bush). Having inherited the empire he also was responsible for a military command in a mythical country called Gallia a large land consisting of various tribes loosely held together by a sort of common culture. He had at his disposal many milites (solders) from the empire but as in all things their number was limited by the resources and will of the people. Most of these men were assigned to areas of the world where stability and order were needed for the economy and the hegemony of the empire. However a fraction was stationed in the land of Gallia for the pacification and stability of a people called Iraquini who live there with other tribes. The Iraquini are in turn an arbitrary name for three main tribes in the same section of Gallia. They are the Curdi, Shiiti and the Sunniti. In addition two insignificant tribes such as the Turcmeni and the Christiani were also present.

The Dux’s father who before him held this command knew that the small fraction of copiae (troops) in this area would not suffice for the task and had brought together other tribes in the general area such as the Franci, Anglici, and Teutoni into an alliance to assist in the pacification and therefore made due with no more troops. The Iraqini were in particular a rather troublesome tribe for the empire because they were ruled by a local ruthless leader who may posses weapons that can destroy many people. In fact he had actually used them ounce before on his own people-the Curdi to the north of his land.

Apart from the cunning ruthlessness of this tyrant the dux’s father, also called Georgius Frutex , managed along with the other soci (allies) to militarily contain this threat embodied in this local leader. This involved the constant presence of the multi-tribal force which monitored and prevented any threatening troop movements on the part of the local leader regardless if he threatened the multi-tribal forces or his own people. A committee from the world community of tribes (UN inspection team) also monitored the goods entering and leaving the land and routinely inspected the leader’s possible hiding spots for his weapons of killing many people.

Now, considering that the empire had a limited number of troops and most of the troops were needed elsewhere this was not a bad state of affairs in fact from a strategic point it was ideal. Iulius Caesar himself would have been proud. A number of very positive elements came into play here which benefited the world community of tribes as well as the empire. Other tribes were fighting with the empire not against it. The tyrannical menace was contained in a political and military box. This scenario had many options for the empire which could be utilized for the benefit of the empire and the community of world tribes. The tyrant as evil as he was actually held the various parts of the land together because the empire on its own did not have the resources to do likewise if it took over the land. Also the land consisted of three major tribes which always vied for the central power or regime, a situation which created a spider’s web the empire did not want to get entangled in. After all a former powerful tribe called the Anglici (British) could not really solve this issue either and left.

Continuing in the same vain other options were available although somewhat more risky than mere containment. The empire could separate the tribes into various governments of their own right before the tyrant’s eyes-a policy inadvertently pursued with the Curdi while protecting and arming them against the tyrant. On the other hand let the tyrant keep the land together while at the same time preventing him from doing evil deeds or secretly assassinate him thereby allowing another government to take shape- one that would be more favorable to the empire. All this required considerably less troops than what would be needed in a full occupation.

This state of affairs remained such until Georgius Frutex Junior came into the picture. He for some reason had made up his mind to rid the civilized world of this evil for unlike his father before him and unlike the great Julius Caesar he saw things in black and white. There was evil and there was good so he decided to invade the land of Iraquia with his own troops if need be. This act would provoke anger among the world tribes represented by the World Community of Tribes (UN). There was a balance hitherto maintained in the world under an implied understanding that no tribe should attack first unless provoked by a real threat. Strike first before you are struck-replied the Dux. But the allies replied that such a military action requires reliable nuntium (intelligence) for if the information is not accurate one can end up attacking a friendly tribe all the while allowing ones true enemies to continue in their misdeeds. (Irania, Corea, Lybia etc.)

The Dux was adamant. Totally convinced the tyrant had these weapons of total destruction (his father had given the tyrant these weapons) he set out to prove to the world the tyrant was a real threat. If his exploratores (CIA) came up with inconclusive information then the data must be analyzed and compiled so as to show what he already knew to be the real case. To make sure of this he set up another supervisory team of exploratores right in his own mansion who would put the data together the way it should be. With these new reports from his own team of exploratores he would contradict the results of his own professionals and the multi-tribal committee reports and set out for war.

The rest is history. Many lives have been lost. The empire has reshuffled 120,000 milites (soldiers) to the area when needed elsewhere. His tribal alliance has crumbled and alone with no allies he has no control over the tribes of Iraquia. It seems this land is not ready for the higher civilized ideals found in the empire. All his options before his campaign are vanished. The tyrant really did not have any weapons of total destruction. He was caught in a rat hole. How could someone who hides in a rat hole posses weapons of total destruction? The empire’s exploratores apparatus (CIA) which used to gather information professionally to benefit the countries’ defense now functions to benefit not the country defense but the political bosses.

The tyrant you see has pulled a bluff wanting to appear to posses these weapons in order to ward off his enemies and the emperor now has no clothes on. This story does have a happy ending though. The Dux must return to the people and explain what happened. He is going to loose more than his clothes on November 2nd , 2004.
