About Me
My name is David O’Barr and I’m
38 years old. When I was a kid, in Jr. High School down
in San Diego a good friend of mine named Richard Tin introduced me
to model building. This was back in the
late 70’s early 80’s. We built Tamiya 1/35 scale
armor kits and he was always much better than me especially when it came to
painting the kits and figures. I gave up
the hobby when I was 15 or 16 years old and didn’t build any models for 15
years. Then one night I was on a date
(with my wife when she was still my girlfriend) and we were down at the Harbor
in San Diego. We were going
to go see a comedian but we were early and so we decided to kill some time at
the Nautical Museum. We were
poking around the Museum store on the Ferry Berkeley and we were looking at
ship models. We ended up buying a model
of the Cutty Sark. We didn’t go see the comedian but went
straight home and started building it.
For a while I built ship models but I always remembered building the
armor kits with Richard and I have always been a WWII buff. So I decided I was going to build some armor
kits from WWII. I thought 1/35 would
take up too much room (we were living in an apartment at the time) and I also
thought that 1/72 would be more of a challenge.
The first kit I built is the Revell Panther A
on the home page in 2000. It was fun and
I haven’t stopped for over four years.
It’s become an obsession, just ask my wife. I have really found a lot of inspiration on
the internet especially at “On the Way” and “Braille Scale” on Missing
Links. See my Links page many
great resources.
Other than being a guy who builds little tanks I’m also a
husband to Crystal, a father to Amber(5) and Erica(3) and a Prosecuting
Attorney for the City of Anaheim here in Orange County, California. It’s great here. I’m about 15 minutes from Brookhurst
Hobbies and several other great Hobby Stores with good 1/72 and 1/76 kits. We live in the City of Brea about 10 miles north of Disneyland and about 30 minutes from Downtown Los Angeles.
