Ohhh, my first rant! *coughs, taps the mic* Testing, can everyone hear me? Ah, good!
Well, one might expect my first rant to defend a couple or shoot down another. *buzzer* Wrong, sorry! This time, I'm gonna sort out exactly what my opinion is on..... dun dun DUNNN! Slash couplings! You heard me right, I'm talking shounen-ai, the whole same gender bit!
Now, let's start with my basic training: guys marry girls and vice versa. Guys love girls and vice versa. The same pattern emerges with dating, kissing, making families, yadda yadda, bla bla, you get the picture, right? Besides, as a Christian, I firmly believe in the Garden of Eden, and who lived there? Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Steve, or Madam and Eve, Adam and Eve! GUY and GIRL! Therefore, that's the way things are meant to be.
Of course, humans tend to break tradition (bad us! Bad!). And I must admit, when I first learned about the existence of such couples, I was as disgusted as my little sister when she had to clean up one of our dog's "surprises" for the first time. Gays?? Lesbians?? But that's against all credo, against the very nature of love! I found it wrong, corrupt and twisted. You could say I pulled a Filia on the same-gender community. ^_^
It took a while, and a bit of a wake up call. See, my friends introduced me to an aquaintence of theirs. He was a nice guy, well-mannered and likeable, and ready and willing to share a good laugh with everyone. And guess what I found out? He was one of THEM. A crooked arrow, so to speak. To my utter shock, the fact didn't disgust me as much! Why? The answer never came right away, then again, nothing ever does...
I slowly grew more and more used to the idea of same-gender folks as time went by. I met a few, watched some odd shows, learned a bit more about the way they thought. A couple of times, the very idea of certain people becoming couples gave me the overwhelming urge to down a bottle of Gravol for relief, but I toughed it out. (Although I admit, as cold as it sounds, I'm glad Tara died in Buffy! Willow and Xander! Guy and girl! They were meant to be from square one! WOOHOO!! *ahem* Anyhow...)
The dawning of realization came about during a few RPs with the awesome community of the PFFA. You may be familiar with the concept of "roomies", and if you aren't, you poor depraved creature! Roomies are characters we rob from TV shows, movies, games and the like, and we role-play (or RP) the characters as if they are sitting right next to us. Sounds odd, but you need imagination, folks! ANYHOW! In this particular online realm of fantasy, I managed to snag Maryuou Gaav of Slayers fame as a roomie. Later, my good friend MV-san claimed Valgaav, the servant of Gaav, as her roomie. Some RP-ing later, we started a shaky romantic interlude between the two.
Now, at first, I was uneasy. I mean, this was shounen-ai! Why was this happening, I can remember lamenting to myself. Then I sat down and wrestled with my inner conflict.
It took a looooot of figuring out, but I finally reached a conclusion of sorts.
For now, this is where I stand: The Bible does not list such acts as being a sin (admittedly, I still have to research that), but I know the will of our Heavenly Father was for Man to love Woman, and as such, that is the way it should be. I do not encourage same-gender love as the way to go, but I do not discourage it. If someone happens to lean that way, who am I to judge? I know the Bible explicitly states, "Do not judge, lest you be judged." Humans have no right to condemn shounen-ai lovers to the 11th level of Hell just because they think that way! It's wrong, but it is present in modern-day times, and we can't barge into their homes waving torches and pitchforks, demanding righteousness. Let's not pull another Salem witch-trial on these people! HOWEVER, please don't force others to think that way if they reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallllllllyyyyyy don't want to, we all have opinions and tastes which must be respected! While it is a wrong opinion, love is love. Some happen to find it in people of their own gender, as twisted as that seems, it happens. And, in some odd cases, it's actually a beautiful kind of love.
That's probably why I can support Gaav and Valgaav as a couple without nausea... either that, or it's because Val looks so girly. HA! XD
Welp, that's my Canadian dollar! Hope you enjoyed! Ja ne, minna-san! Jesus loves you all! ^_^
