November 2004
Celebrating November
It may sound a little weird but I think November is a great month. Some Novembers are better than others but still in the overall scheme of things November is great. Perhaps you are a bit curious about all of this so let me explain.
A lot of very good things happen in November. First, let me confess that I was born in November. That may not send goose bumps up and down your spine but it does a lot for me! I have enjoyed life, not every day mind you but again in the overall scheme of things life has been very good. While I do not know what the coming days will bring I have every reason to believe there will be a lot of very good days coming my way.
The second thing about November is that Deborah and I were married in November. While that may not have been a good deal for Deborah, it certainly has been for me. This year we celebrate twenty-five years of marriage and I would enjoy it if we had at least that many more years together. So, that is another reason I like November.
November is the month when we celebrate Thanksgiving. I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying that very special day. Food, family, fun and frolicking in the cold are enough to make me smile on a cool, gray day. I can scarcely wait!
Advent comes in November. I really look forward to Advent. There is an excitement in the air and the worship of the Church takes on added meaning. Of course everyone is busy preparing for Christmas but still November carries sufficient excitement. Part of that excitement for me is because in the way the Church calculates time it is the beginning of a new worship year. We begin again telling the ancient story of God acting in human history to let us know God's love and faithfulness to each of us.
Lastly, this November brings to a conclusion a long presidential campaign. For the end of that torturous experience I am very glad. Please go to and vote and let's get back to civil conversation.
So, for me November is great. There is one more thing that I want to celebrate...I like spending November with people just like you, so, I hope to see you in Sunday School and Church.
Grace and peace,
David
