You've
Gotta Know
Today something strange and exciting happened. A lady came into
the office to drop off some inserts we had agreed to put into our
worship bulletin. I was sitting in my study, wonderfully engaged
in reading a book on worship. I heard the conversation going on
outside my study door but was trying to focus on my reading.
Somehow, I became aware that she wanted to speak to me, so I arose from
my chair and met her just inside the door of the Study.
Her greeting was animated, friendly; and the smile on her face was
pleasant, filled with warmth. I offered my hand in greeting and
she grasped it with firm, genuine gladness.
She and her daughters listen to PERCEPTIONS as they go to the
daughter's school. Her daughter is fourteen and the mother
is...older than 14! It seems when our radio spot begins, the
daughter turns the volume up and listens carefully to every word.
The mother's words were words of gratitude for this one-minute
spot that speaks words about God and love in a way that touches both
their hearts. I was humbled by her praise for the way this
ministry spoke to them.
The mother had told the daughter that she was dropping these inserts at
the Church, and the daughter insisted that the mother meet me.
She said the daughter also wanted my autograph! I was too
embarrassed to do that. There was one more thing the daughter
wanted to know: "Did I know that I was being heard on a rock
station?"
So, what is it "You've gotta know?" This is our ministry
together. The voice is mine but the ministry is ours. Your
financial support and your prayers make this ministry available; God,
through the mysterious working of the Holy Spirit, gives it meaning.
One more thing you've gotta know: This radio ministry is not
about us! Instead, it is about telling the good news of Jesus the
Christ. The very foundation of reaching out to others is to let
them know what we have found to be true:
God made us,
God loves us, and
God desires to be in a living relationship with each of us.
God is the story; we are sent to tell the story.
Grace and Peace,
David
