August 2003
Strange Days
By all accounts this summer has been most unusual. The weather has been unbelievable. Starting last fall and up to this day, we have had snow and rain in abundance. No one is ever safe in saying the drought of last year is over, about the best any cautious person can admit is that as of now we have plenty of water. Still, the weather is only one part of the strange days we are experiencing.
Have you noticed the goodly number of people who are giving of their time and talent in our Sunday School and worship services? Teachers, ushers, readers, acolytes, crossbearers, singers and ringers, greeters and meeters, and a host of other activities are all being done by new and renewing worshippers. All this is happening in the hot, vacation days of summer!
I can't speak for the weather but I am convinced that the increased participation in volunteers is a work done by the Holy Spirit. God is continuing to renew Central and moving us to proclaim with energy and conviction the good news of Jesus Christ in our region. The many services offered by the laity at Central is evidence that God has opened our hearts and touched our lives. As the gospel is proclaimed in the sanctuary, workplace, and the neighborhood, we are all coming to understand the words of Jesus who said: "If I be lifted up, I will draw all men to myself..." As we tell the good news, we and others come to know the truth of God's great, life-changing love for each of us.
These are strange and wonderful days. Days that are filled with lifegiving abundance and spiritual renewal.
Come be a part of the community of faith and the loving activity of God.
Grace and Peace,
David
