External Bracing

Considerable bracing to keep this thing from falling off the foundation, and allow us to remove the foundation and replace it.  Four 2x4 or 2x6's at about a 10degree angle supporting a 7' long double 2x10.  Cross braced and on the outer two, laterally braced.

Now for some pictures of the foundation as I pulled it apart.  The original builders had literally started a foot below grade, scraped a small trench and slapped down some bricks.  No footing, not below the frost line and simply not capable of supporting the weight of the stone band at the top.

The foundation I decided to install is constructed of 0.6% treated lumber but it was still a trick to get square wood to turn round!!

The bick veneer when re-installed has to line up with the outer face of the original wall so my foundation is just barely sitting under the current wall above.  Floor and new wall studs will correct this overhang.

In a flurry of work, we have actually got this room in far better shape than it was originally I believe.  Foam insulation, new studs and floor joists, and a door that makes sense.

Yes, the lights are on and actually, so is the air- conditioning!!
