| Just how many hobbies does one person need? Obviously, I can't get a grip on reality because I continue to accumulate hobbies, or at least the desire to do more stuff! I have had so much fun, it probably should be against the law. My wife is not a hobbies oriented person. She is totally content to sit with a cup of hot tea and a good book in front of the television on a chilly day and just plain veg out. Not me, she insists that I must be on the go 99.5% of the time. Maybe she is right (oh no, did I actually admit that?) because I could spend a large portion of my day doing, just doing! Listed below are a few of my pastimes. Some I get to do frequently, others I only get to do occasionally, and a few are ancient history but held a place for some time. I have been lucky with my efforts. There has been little that I liked that I have not been able to become proficient enough at to enjoy and not become frustrated. See how many things we have in common. I hope you fill your life up with things to do. Keep moving, keep going, your physical and mental health depends on it! |

The three links below are a few pages of pictures dealing with some of my hobbies. |
||
| The activities listed below are not necessarily listed in order of importance or frequency but merely in the order they leapt from my brain! | ||
Music - Over the last ten years I have developed musical interests. I play the guitar, harmonica, bodhran (traditional Irish drum), the hammered dulcimer, and I sing. I play and listen to a wide variety of music. One of my favorite musical pastimes is playing with a Celtic and traditional Irish music ensemble. Art - My first hobby ever and still one of the most rewarding. I like pencil sketching and acrylic painting. Landscapes and buildings are my favorite. Backpacking and Hiking - I prefer mostly backpacking. There is something indescribable about being on a mountain along a ridge at an overlook and looking out over the landscape below you. It's even better when you do that for several days at a time with no phones, computers, pagers, televisions, radios, you get the picture! Fishing - Probably one of the most relaxing of hobbies. I prefer small ponds and trout streams over large lakes and I practice catch and release. Using a fly rod always soothes me, but I think I could manage to relax with a bait caster or spinning reel too! Off Road riding - Go figure! The hobby this site is devoted to. All Terrain Vehicle activities meet the need for the adrenaline rush. Hunting - Rabbit hunting with good dogs is my favorite, then there is deer hunting. I don't hunt anymore as I would prefer to practice catch and release, but duh! that just doesn't work hunting, now does it? Skeet and Sporting Clays - Not as good as hunting for the overall experience, but probably more fun if I really think about it. Athletics - I don't do much of these anymore but these I like [ swimming / basketball / racquetball / softball & baseball / volleyball / tae kwon do / wrestling (not the WWF)] Snow Skiing - Took to it right off and thoroughly enjoy it. Each year I promise myself that I will go to the slopes some but I seldom do. :( Design - Yes, unfortunately, I like my architectural job so much that occasionally I will just design something for the fun of it. I have designed golf courses, landscaping plans for homes, well, and the homes for that matter that never existed. I enjoy coming up with logos and other artwork for friends' businesses (but then it is tied in closely with the art hobby and that was my very first one) and I just like to sit and figure things out on paper. Games - Well golf is a game but it's in a different league than the following. Bowling / Darts / Pool / Pinball / Horseshoes. I like most any kind of simple game. Of those listed here, I like shooting pool the best, but I'm also decent at bowling. |
