The Homepage of G. Russ Ackermann

Russ was born in the city of Wheeling in the panhandle of West Virginia.  Wheeling is located on the Ohio River about 50 miles southwest of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania with a population of around 45,000 residents.  He was raised in and around Wheeling, attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Grade School, Wheeling Central Catholic High School, and Wheeling Jesuit College (now known as Wheeling Jesuit University), graduating in 1964 with a BS in Physics; entered the U.S. Navy in 1965, and, after attending Navy schools in Memphis, Tennessee, was stationed at Barbers Point Naval Air Station, Hawaii from 1966-1969 in Patrol Squadron 4 (VP-4) ("The Skinny Dragons").  On a sunny day in March 1968 he met Arlene at the Wainae Beach NCO Club; they were married 2 Jul 1969 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Guess it was meant to be - they've been happily married for over 35 years now, with three grown children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

After his discharge from the Navy, Russ worked briefly in Wheeling, then he moved the family to Akron, Ohio where he took a position with General Tire and Rubber Company and attended the University of Akron where he earned his MS in Physics.  From Akron, the family removed to Ashville, North Carolina where he worked for American Enka for a short time before relocating to Idaho Falls, Idaho.  There both Russ and Arlene worked at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory; Russ for the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Arlene for the primary contractor under the U.S. Department of Energy for about 20 years.  Russ took early retirement in October 1994 and Arlene took final retirement in March 1996.  Russ joined SCIENTECH, Inc. in Idaho Falls for about a year, then went "on the road" and did some independent contracting; spent some time with Intelligent Medical Imaging, Inc. in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida as a Software Engineer; and is currently associated with Perot Systems, Inc., headquartered in Plano, TX.
