1830 "I am hoping to make a connection or find out information about my family tree.

My great great grandparents, Peter Hickey and Elizabeth Cooney Hickey, emigrated from Ireland in 1871. They were Catholic and owing to information on the birth of two of their children that I found on the internet, I believe they were from the Bailieborough, Co Cavan area.

Peter initially settled in Chicago and found work as a blacksmith.

Elizabeth and the children joined him in October 1871. As they were making their way by train from New York to Chicago, the Great Chicago Fire erupted and all train traffic in and out of Chicago was halted.

Family lore says my great grandfather, John, was born in a train station somewhere in Illinois while Elizabeth and the children were marooned there.

The family was reunited and settled in Philadelphia.

Peter (who was born approx 1830) and Elizabeth Cooney (who was born approx

1836) had the following children:

Patrick Hickey – born approx 1860

Margaret Hickey – born approx 1862

Kate Hickey – born approx 1864

James Hickey – born 24 June 1866

Peter Hickey Jr – born 1 Oct 1868

John Hickey (my great grandfather) – born in the USA Oct 1871

Margaret Hickey – born in the USA in 1876

If there are any Hickey’s or Cooney’s living in the Co Cavan area, I’d love to correspond with them. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

March 13, 1867 "Peggy McBreen emigrated from Shercock via Liverpool in July 1923 on the Baltic. She was known in Ireland as Maggie, and that is the name on the Baltic's manifest. She was to join her brother John, who had arrived on the California in 1910 and was living in NYC. Their parents were John McBreen (d. 10/7/1905) and Rose O'Reilly (b. 3/13/1867). I believe the whole family was from Bailieboro - I'm not sure where my grandmother's Shercock address came from. Children of John and Rose: Philip, John, Mary, Catherine, Patrick, Bernard, and Margaret. I don't know if any others came to the US or remained in Cavan.
