M97 the "Owl" nebula located in Ursa Major is a cloud of gas emitted from a dying star. It is aproximately magnitude 11.2 but fairly accessible with an 8" scope in good skies !This LRGB image is an integration of 40 each at 30 seconds for the red ,blue and green and two combined 40@30 for the luminance. An FFT was done on each channel to soften the image a little and a stretch applied to bring out some of the detail otherwise hidden in the data! The RGB were registered and combined in Aip4Win then the luminance and color image were combined in "Gimp for Windows". The image was taken with an SBIG ST5C ccd camera ,fr5c reducer and 11" scope at f3.7 .
