World View
Jordan, November '02

Walking down the stairwell of the Al-Monzer Hotel in downtown Amman Jordan, this view caught my eye. Jordan is a mosaic of people from all over the Middle East, as well as other parts of the world. Looking out through this hotel balcony window gives a clear view of the ‘world’ beyond. A church seen in the distance is a reminder of how Muslim and Christian dwell together in harmony there - something which we also observed in Iraq. This view made me think of how we all need to try to see the world through other people’s "windows". We need to remember, however, that we often have our own cultural ‘dirt’ that tends to hinder our view. We have a choice of whether to open the window to shed our cultural bias' and see the amazing view beyond, or, keep the window closed and see dimly through the dirty glass.
